New Expansion Building for the Nohfelden Elementary School at the Sötern Site – A Milestone for Sustainable Construction in the Saarland

The new extension building at Nohfelden Elementary School’s Sötern site was inaugurated in May 2025, expanding the school campus to meet growing demand for full-day education and modern learning environments. The project combines architectural quality, contemporary educational concepts and sustainable construction. In April 2026, Sötern Elementary School became the first school in Saarland to receive DGNB Gold certification.

The new building creates a two-form-entry school campus with grade-level clusters, support and team areas, a kitchen, cafeteria and rooms for after-school care.

wpw served as project manager, supported the procurement process and provided consulting services for DGNB certification. Its scope of services included the preparation, execution and documentation of EU-wide procurement procedures for freelance services, as well as project management services for project phases 1 to 5 in accordance with AHO.

The result is a sustainable and functional learning environment designed to meet the school’s current and future requirements.
