New Expansion Building for the Nohfelden Elementary School at the Sötern Site – A Milestone for Sustainable Construction in the Saarland

With the dedication of the new expansion wing at Nohfelden Elementary School’s Sötern campus in May 2025, the municipality sent a strong message in support of sustainable school construction. The project combines architectural quality, educational innovation, and sustainable construction methods. In April 2026, Sötern Elementary School became the first school in Saarland to receive the DGNB Gold Certificate.

The new building addresses the growing need for full-day care and modern learning environments. The result is a two-track school campus featuring grade-level clusters, support and team zones, a kitchen, a cafeteria, and rooms for after-school care.

wpw served as the project manager, provided support with procurement management, and offered consulting on DGNB certification. Our services included the preparation, execution, and documentation of EU-wide procurement procedures for freelance services, as well as all project management services for project phases 1 through 5 in accordance with AHO.

A place for learning and living—sustainable, functional, and forward-looking.
