Construction of the New Eiweiler Water Treatment Plant and Primstal Water Pressure-Boosting Station

To ensure a reliable drinking water supply in the districts of St. Wendel and Birkenfeld, the Nonnweiler Dam Association (TVN) is planning to construct a modern water treatment plant in Eiweiler and a supplementary pressure-boosting station in Primstal.

With a capacity of 20 million m³, the Nonnweiler Dam is the largest dam in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. It supplies parts of the region with drinking and industrial water, helps maintain water levels during periods of low flow, provides flood protection and generates hydroelectric power.
The new water treatment plant will have a capacity of 800 m³/h, equivalent to 5.2 million m³ per year. Existing pipelines totalling 10 km will be used to transport the raw water, while an additional 4 km of new supply pipelines will be installed. As the planned treatment plant is located approximately 70 metres above the dam, a high-capacity pressure-boosting station is being built in an industrial estate in Primstal.

The project combines security of supply with sustainable water management.

wpw was responsible for procurement management for the EU-wide tendering of general planning services. The services were awarded through a negotiated procedure with a competitive prequalification process and cover the planning of civil engineering structures, structural engineering and technical systems.
