Expansion Design Center Ford

The expansion of the Ford Design Center at the Cologne-Merkenich development site has created a forward-looking space for creativity and interdisciplinary collaboration. A light-filled new building spanning approximately 3,000 m² was constructed to complement the existing structure and architecturally reflect Ford’s design philosophy. The new center brings together creative teams responsible for the design of subcompact and compact vehicles worldwide, such as the Ford Fiesta and Focus.

wpw designed an open and transparent-looking building that impresses with its strongly horizontally structured glass facade while also promoting communication and inspiration through fluid spatial layouts. The central element—and an eye-catching feature—is the wedge-shaped meeting room that appears to float in the space. Another highlight is the “Power Wall.” It serves as a platform for the global, real-time exchange of digital designs. An integrated work environment has been created that uniquely combines creativity, technology, and design culture.
